Coiled Keyboard Cables Support Guide

Frequently Asked Questions about Coiled Keyboard Cables

Are your cables compatible with all keyboards? Is your coiled cable capable of powering high powered keyboards like Drop Alt, HHKB, etc?

We have not received any issues with compatibility with keyboards. However there are reports that the Drop and HHKB series of keyboards have problems with long coiled cables combined with high RGB usage.

Our coiled cables are of optimal length and should support all devices. If you have any issues please contact us!

Our unique cable length allows us for broad compatibility with many if not all keyboard devices.

We have heard of the issues that long coiled cables will not work with such keyboards, however our coiled cable is at a preset length which is optimized for the best compatibility across all keyboard brands.

If you have any issues with different devices, please let us know! We can help you!

What USB Port or USB Hub should I use to power a coiled cable?

You should be using the most dedicated USB port on your computer or device. This is because those ports provide the most power or output capabilities and thus will provide the most reliable connection through your coiled cable to your selected device.

This means you should opt for dedicated USB 2.0, 3.0 or higher USB ports on your devices. Using the back ports is usually the best, however it should work fine on the front ports of your computer.

Our cables will work fine with powered USB hubs. A powered hub is quite different than a typical USB hub. Most cheaper USB hubs do not have enough power to carry power to 2-3 devices at once. When you add a coiled cable to the combo, you may be asking for too much from such a USB hub.

Stick with a dedicated powered USB hub which will ensure the power is equal across all devices, so you avoid any issues with being unable to power your device through our cables.

How can I maintain the coil so it stays snappy for a long time?

Here is a video to demonstrate how to maintain it. It is quite simple!

1.Twist it in the direction it is coiled so that you keep it snappy and then connect it to your keyboard.
2.For our cables you would spin it counter clockwise. Please watch the video above for a demonstration.
3.It’s not necessary but it will maintain the coil for a long time and keep it straight/snappy!

Diagnosing Your Coiled Cables for Issues

Time needed: 10 minutes.

Diagnosing Your Cable

  1. Connect your cable to your computer and test it with your keyboard.

If your cable is working with the device, this is great and is working as intended.

If you wiggle the cable and it disconnects momentarily while moving it, it may be that the port on your device is faulty or our cable may be faulty.

Test the device with another known working cable and wiggle it. If it continues to disconnect, it may be that your device port is dirty or faulty.

If the cable works without issues and during movement, please contact us below to discuss the fault.

If this is not your issue, please continue.

  2. Cable is connected, but is not detecting the device.

There is two reasons why this may be occurring:

    1. Your device may be too high powered and thus requires a shorter cable to power it.

    2. The cable may be faulty and either a computer error message has alerted you of a problem such as: the device is pulling too much current, or the USB device cannot be identified.

  3. Determining if the cable or the device is faulty or incompatible

If your computer states that the device is pulling to much current, it is likely your device is faulty or the cable you received is potentially faulty.

If your computer states that the device cannot be identified or does not detect any device, either the coiled cable is too long to power your high powered device or your cable is potentially faulty.

In most cases we find this is not an issue with our coiled cables because of our meticulous attention to detail and quality assurance. We typically find the cables that do not ‘work’ are relatively rare keyboards or devices such as:

    – Happy Hacking Keyboard (HHKB)
    – Drop Alt, and other series; and
    – other high powered device.

We find our length of a 20cm coil inclusive of a 1.5m total length cable should not have this problem unlike other coiled cables. We have limited the cable to this length to provide the perfect compatibility and experience to any device you may own.

Please note our coiled keyboard cables are not made to charge mobile devices. They are too long to provide optimal charging.

  4. My Computer says – The device or USB Port is pulling too much current

If your computer states that the device is pulling to much current, it is likely your device is faulty or the cable you received is potentially faulty.

To ensure it is the cable that is faulty we advise to use another known-working cable to test the device.

If the device works we ask you to immediately stop using the cable you received and contact our support line down below.

We will get back to you to get you connected to your tech as soon as practicable!

We apologise for any inconvenience and we will help you get to the bottom of this!

  5. My Computer Says – The USB port cannot detect or identify the device connected

If your computer states that the device cannot be identified or does not detect any device, either the coiled cable is too long to power your high powered device or your cable is potentially faulty.

To ensure it is the cable that is faulty we advise to use another known-working cable to test the device.

If the device works we ask you to immediately stop using the cable you received and contact our support line down below.

It may still be that your device could be high powered or incompatible with our cable. If so we can help you identify what it may be and how we can get our products to work with yours! We are quite confident our cables work with all devices, but if there is any doubts be sure to ask!
